Road Trip 2014 - Part II: Still Belgium

Following on from part one of the 2014 Road Trip...

We spent a lovely, lazy day on Monday, chilling out with Lies and the kids. She had to work on Tuesday, so Cathryn and I stepped over the bridge into Bruges. It's only a ten minute walk from their house.

Big Buildings

Horses

Towers

Remember this from the movie?

A little nod to gay rights and the Winter Olympics...

We had a good wander round, then paused for beer in a lovely bar called Opus Latino, tucked away from the main tourist trail...

We had pizza, then went for waffles...

Then more beer at Bruges' Irish Bar. It was more Irish than the whole of Ireland put together. They even had fibreglass coving in the shape of a cave, suggesting, perhaps, that Irish people live in caves...? We found the cutest li'le snug, perfect for leprechauns - and drinking.

Then we took a slow wander back through the heart of Belgium's cupcake-chocolate wonderland...

Mmmm...

...nomnomnom...

...errr...

...!!??
We waved goodbye to Bruges on Wednesday and took a drive back to the ferry, via a slightly miscalculated detour towards Ypres. It was further than I thought, so we ended up buying cake for the ferry in a lovely little bakery called Ameel in Vleteren

Halfway through eating them before I thought to
take a picture.

We sailed into Dover in sunshine, just as we'd left it.

Front of the line!

Little docking vid., soundtrack April Showers by ProleteR - loving this tune.
