Quiet in the Chaos

I mentioned in my last post that security is a bit of an issue in Kenya at the moment.

Yesterday, in the morning, my dad e-mailed a link to a news article explaining that British tourists were being evacuated from the country and flights to Nairobi had been suspended by tour operators.

K's cleaner had just finished her shift and we were talking about the security situation, and how she has to carry her ID with her at all times and present it on a regular basis. I told her about the evacuations, and pulled up the Beeb website to show her - at which point I noticed the breaking news that two bombs had gone off at a busy market across town, killing ten and injuring seventy.

I quickly texted K, who was already e-mailing her team to make sure they were all aware of what had happened.

That evening, we went for a walk in Karura Forest, one of the most beautifully calm and relaxing places in Nairobi.

It was hard to believe it was the same country, yet alone the same city.

K calling round her team to make sure they
all got home safely.
