Yesterday, Ruaíri and I went to meet his friend Ken at the National Gallery. Ken is to be the other witness at the wedding, which will take place probably around April. He was also working in Rwanda, but arrived a couple of months after me, so this was the first time I met him.
Spring has definitely sprung. The crocuses were blooming in the park.
We walked back via St. Andrew's Square where they had a beautiful display of photographs of different patterns in nature.
The one of the paisley pattern was particularly interesting. It's a pattern strongly associated with Ireland, but apparently it:
...originated in Persia during the Sassanid Dynisty from the 3rd to 7th centuries AD. Known in Persia as Boteh Jegheh, the motif is believe to be derived from images of flowers and cypresses and was a Zoroastrian symbol of life and eternity.
I'm particularly interested in Zoroastrianism in relation to the origins of religion. It's quite a fascinating subject.

The day ended in predictable style: large quantities of whisky and a pub quiz at The Southsider with Laeticia, where we came second and won a bottle of wine.
Lovely day, slightly weird morning. Woke the house up at 5am having a nightmare. Really don't remember the last time I had one of those, but it was a beauty. It involved turning into a blue butterfly, having no mouth, and being killed by a guy dressed as a farmer. Apparently I was screaming in my sleep.
Maybe time to cut back on the whisky... or pub quizzes.
