Nyanza and Nights Out

Took a trip back down to Nyanza yesterday. Was there a couple of weeks back with Ian and Sameer. Still one of my favourite places, but the guides are seriously inconsistent. The last one was really good, told some jokes, pointed out all the interesting things. This time the guy was struggling with English and tried to rush through everything as though he couldn't wait to be out of there. Missed a lot of interesting stuff out. Rwanda still has a way to go on the whole tourism experience side of things, but it's still a really interesting place.

Gisozi gives Rwanda's recent past, Nyamirambo Women's Centre shows you the Rwanda of today, and Nyanza is a journey into the country's ancient past.

We went to stroke the royal cows, which is when I learnt that mum really doesn't like cows. Apparently, growing up on a farm, they used to terrify her and her dad had to keep them away.  I must admit, I don't like cows much either. I was once chased across a field by a herd of cows and my friend Jim had to shoo them back with a stick. Luckily, these ones are very docile, despite their huge horns.

We've had a couple of nice meals. They met my landlord, Edward, for coffee and a chat, and we caught some traditional intore dancing at CasaKeza. Went to Khazana, the best Indian restaurant in town.

And also went to The Hut, which has amazing food and service. Merrick was well impressed by their steak, and I indulged in a couple of passion fruit mojitos.
