Spurted tea through my nostrils at this one.
It's Remy, the motoing dude I met in Laos, before and after his backpacking adventure around Asia. Think he'd been going about six months when I met him. Now settling in Vancouver. Didn't cut his beard the whole trip.
On the topic of hair, one of my old dreadlock clients posted this horrific picture.
Nooooooooooooooo!!!! |
Just been back through the archives. I think this was his first tidy-up, about a week after dreading up.
Those dreads must have been about eight years old.
My ex was the first guy I dreaded. If he ever cuts these off I will go into mourning. They are stunning. Still makes me smile when he posts a picture of them.
Aaaaanyway. Random.
I'm also going to quit the tag Wombling Free here. I think we're done with travelling for a bit. Kind of arrived.
Though, that's still to be seen.
Slightly worrying developments over the past few days.

Sources at the border said DRC troops were bringing tanks closer to the Rwandan border and that some FDLR elements were embedded within FARDC apparently as part of a wider plan to launch a full-scale war on Rwanda.
“There are hundreds of DRC soldiers at Ruhunda who poured in under the cover of darkness. By morning, almost a battalion had reached there. The soldiers appear to be in a war mood,” said a Corp at the border of the two countries.
There's always been bluster between rebels and the RDF along the border, it's nothing new, and nothing to be alarmed about from the safety of Kigali (though probably not the best time to book a holiday at Paradise Malahide).
After all, we've got 20 years of UK/American/Chinese investment behind us, and I doubt they'd sit back and watch their assets go up in smoke. The RDF are well trained and well armed.
But I will admit it was a bit of a surprise to log onto the Beeb the other day and see Rwanda/DRC trending.
As Dad said:
So let me review - you arrive in Nairobi n they start bombing the city; you arrive in Kigali and DRC invades Rwanda - soooo the common denominator here is ??
Thanks Dad, love you too ;)
I would say it's nothing to worry about, only today I learned that a Rwandan friend is apparently a little apprehensive. He thinks this is a new development, something more than the usual back-and-forth. Only time will tell, and you can't panic about things that haven't happened yet. Plus, the reports only seem to be interviewing the DRC side, so they're a bit skewed.
In other news, went to visit The Office with Jo this morning. It's quite impressive. Basically a shared office space where you can pay to use the facilities by the day or month. Awesome idea.
We headed to town for breakfast afterwards, with bouncy baby Zubadoo. Though she's not really a baby anymore as she's outgrown her pink shoes and is now sporting this season's blue crocs. We munched panini and pain au chocola.
I've had the offer of a house party in Nyamata (about 45 mins south) or drinks with friends tonight. I am absolutely shattered. Didn't sleep well last night and hardly been able to stay awake today. Passing up the house party and rescheduling drinks for tomorrow night.
I'm working like a lunatic at the moment to get the business set up and ready. Taking applications for Associate Consultants at the moment. Hoping to line up some meetings next week, in between panicking over where I'm going to watch Wimbledon. My mate Jean has offered to put it on at his bar for me, but I'm not 100% convinced he'll be able to. May have to decamp to the Casino or somewhere stupidly expensive like Serena, and battle the World Cup crowd for airtime.
So, yes, friends. It's Friday night and I'm... working.
How dull is that?
Or perhaps 'grown-up'? I suppose I should attempt to be, at least one day a week.
