Dalkey Days

After our lovely breakfast this morning, we took a leisurely amble down to Bullock Harbour in Dalkey. Martine says there are often seals there, and I have never seen them in the wild, only in sanctuaries.

The sea was extremely choppy and sadly the seals were not to be seen, but the view was beautiful.

Above is a panoramic of Bullock Harbour, with Ruairí looking out to sea on the right.

We also made a friend, who kept bringing us bottles and pieces of plastic to throw.

Walking back, the fishermen were unloading the waste from their catch. We think they were about to throw it to the gulls because of the number gathering.

This is what they were interested in.

It was rather windy, so we headed on down the coast, past what Ruairí said was 'the most expensive real estate in Ireland.' One of them apparently belongs to The Edge from U2! We think it may be the one with the sculpture outside.

We also swung past Dalkey Island (Dalkey meaning Thorn Island), which has a Martello tower on top. A prominent part of stone age human settlement, and later Viking invasions.

A little while later we pulled into another harbour with a shop selling fresh catch of the day.

There were plenty more gulls, which made me think of Johnathan Livingston, and wonder what he might be up to now.

We also met these li'le guys, possibly Turnstones? They were hanging about outside the shop and looked really funny when they ran.

It really was a beautiful place, and lovely to see the sea.

Then it was back home for Ruairí's special beef pho (fur).

And pomelo, which tastes really nice (like grapefruit without the bite) but takes an eternity to get in to.

However, not before swinging past their local for an inaugural pint of Guinness. Always tastes better in Ireland.
