Old Colwall House

Had a lovely meander around an estate at Colwall, Malvern, yesterday. Made it back to the UK just in time to catch the last of the country gardens.

Apparently Old Colwall House, dating from the early 1700s, is likely to have been built on an earlier building from the 1500s.

Early C18 garden on a site owned by the Church till Henry VIII. Walled lawns and terraces on various levels. The heart is the yew walk, a rare survival from the 1700s: 100 yds long, 30ft high, cloud clipped, and with a transept-like quality inside.

The Yew Tree Walk is indeed impressive. They say it takes two weeks to clip it.

It was lovely to wander the flower beds and greenhouses.

Giant Rhubarb

Autumn is definitely on its way. We saw a beautiful bridge on the way home, dripping with leafy vines turning red.

Percy enjoyed it all safe and warm in my pocket.
